Big on the Beach

Big on the Beach at Ardrossan South Beach has become a highlight in the August calendar. It is now in its third-year, having run in 2009 and 2010. This year the event takes place from 4 - 6 August 2011.

Activities will include power kite flying, kite-boarding, windsurfing, a make-your-own-boats boating pond, treasure hunt, book sale, inflatables, assault course, bouncy castle, bungee trampolines, gyroscope, laserquest, basketball and for younger children facepainting, an animal show, a ball pool and a soft play area.

There will also be a number of shows, and WestFM will be broadcasting from the event.  I am going along to this event to try and get young kids into the sport and hopefully show them what windsurfing is all about. So as always i am keeping my fingers crossed for some wind and good weather. More info at http://www.irvinebay.co.uk/.

Fraisthorpe

So this weekend i made the trip to Fraisthorpe on the east coast , looked like that would be one of the better places to sail around there.  On arrival i thought i saw Timo mullens  sail out on the water but i thought to myself naaaa cant be.  Sure enough it was him and he had been there all day since about 9ish, hell of a long drive from Sandbanks.

The conditions were not epic but still good fun. Wind was light 5.3 weather and the waves were 6ft in the sets. The main battle was trying to get out with the light wind. Took a few attempts on some runs to get out the back to the clean wind, but once you were on the wave it was worth the drive for sure. Heres a few picks from Sunday.

Pistol River event

Hi guys,

Just got home from an amazing time in the Gorge and Pistol river. I arrived in the gorge with Muzza on the 10th of June and we had 4 days of amazing sailing at the Hatch before we went to the Pistol event. This year the River in the Gorge was so fast,  my freind and local Bryan Metcalf Perez was saying how he had never seen it so stong. Because it was running so fast this ment as soon as the wind hit 25 knots the swell just kept building. So we had 3 good days with head high waves on the river which was insane.

We headed down to pistol on the Monday and as soon as we arrived we were greeted with 40 knots and head high waves. Not a bad first day really. The next day was the first day of competition which was solid 4.2 weather with chest high waves. Didnt do to well on the first day but came back in the Double to come a respectable 11th place overall. Should hopefully have some picks to come soon . Big thanks to Sam Bittner for the event and cant wait to go back next year.

Pistol River

Hi guys,

Well its just under a week now until i go to the 2nd stop on the AWT Pistol river. Should be a great event with lots of top riders there Including Robby Naish and Josh stone. Also all the gorge crew is going down Including Bryan Metcalf Perez  , Tyson and Whitt Poor , Rob Warwick and Casey Hauser. I went to this event last year and couldn't believe how good conditions we had for the contest. Hopefully we get the same this time. I will try and keep you up to date as much as i can when i am there about all the action from the contest.
